Praise for the Crown and Tide Series:

“…the author makes so many great character observations that I’m reminded of Brent Weeks in the lightbringer series and of Joe Abercrombie in the First Law trilogy.” —Dylan West, the author of Scribes’ Descent

“Michael is another writer on my list of when their book releases, it goes to the front of my TBR. He’s hooked me, and I can’t wait to see what he has in store!”—David’s Best Reads

The Revenge of Thousands is a great addition to the Crown and Tide series. This prequel novella expands the story and the depth of key characters in wonderful ways.

I think this novella is best read after Book 1 of the series. It’s not required—there are no spoilers—but I believe knowing the plot from The Traitors We Are adds to the sense of “oh no…” here.

But more importantly, having the context of book 1 allows you to pick up on aspects of the characters you might not have normally noticed.

In particular, I appreciate Merily as a character much more than I did after book 1. I see her character and role more clearly now, and I love it.

And as before, Ordan remained my favorite character to read. I don’t know what it is, but the voice and thought process in that character’s perspective just works great for me. Starting now to wonder what that says about me…

Oh! And the more I think about it, the more upset I get by the existence of Derris as a character in this story. That’s all I can say without spoilers. It’s just…seeing how he is here and knowing what he becomes later. Upsetting.

Having said all of that, I’ve also heard that those who read this novella before book 1 feel that is the best order to read the books. So it seems you can’t go wrong no matter which entry point you use for the series!

In any case, go have some fun and read The Revenge of Thousands! Well, fun aside from the sad parts. But the sad parts are some of the best parts, so I suspect your enjoyment of the story will only grow with all parts of the story!

Long story short: If you liked The Traitors We Are, you’ll love The Revenge of Thousands. In my opinion, it’s an essential and worthwhile part of the series.
